We had a long weekend in Victoria (for the Footy Finals (!!?) and it was my birthday. I decided to take myself away on a long weekend to Port Fairy. It is 5 hours by train/bus and is a comfortable long weekend trip.
Below are just a few of the 11 double pages of sketches that I did.
Below is Port Fairy lighthouse sketched on a map from the Tourist Centre.
I started the day by sketching while waiting for the tram, then the train.
Then onthe train then at the bus stop. There is lot of waiting time.
I can’t seem to make this image smaller. so here is my giant licorice ice cream.
I took the opportunity to catchup with Port Fairy Sketch Club, which I had sketched with on their first meeting in February this year.
another giant image.
and that is only half of my sketches. The others still need to be completed and words written on the page.
I enjoyed looking at these sketches. I was there for the Port Fairy Literary Weekend, it’s a lovely place, even when the weather is mean!
Happy birthday, Alissa! From your sketches and descriptions, what a fun trip you must’ve had! What a great idea to sketch the lighthouse on the brochure. The paper looks slick and coated. Did you use something special to create the sketch? I’m not sure you should’ve tried to make your licorice waffle cone smaller …. it looks perfect, purple and positively yummy! Your dead fish description is hilarious … so glad he didn’t blow up on you. I can only imagine the flies that would attract. From your sketch, he looks somewhat like a puffer type fish ?? It’s a great sketch despite your ability to concentrate! Hope you share the rest of your sketches too! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Lisa. It is a lovely place to visit. The Sketch Club is based out of Blarney Books and Art, who were heavily involved in most pf the Festival .
I hope to get back there for the Biblio Art Prize . The weather certainly turned on Sunday and I was happy to find cosy places to wait for my bus.
Thanks Barb ! I was lucky that is was not coated paper. It was a tear off map that they have at the counter of the Tourist Centre. I did a few other drawings on it, but it was too big to scan. I will start googling the fish , For some reason I thought of puffer fish too, even though I dont know what they are !
